Foods that contain antioxidants, free radical fighter, so far believed to protect the body from cancer hazard. One of the potentially cancer-fighting fruit is strawberries.
Research conducted in China showed that people at high risk of suffering from esophageal cancer could avoid the disease after a routine eating strawberry fruit extracts.
Tong Chen, cancer researchers from Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center, became interested to examine the benefit strawberries in humans after research in the laboratory of experimental animals showed that taste of fruit and fresh acid has anti-cancer benefits.
In research funded by the California Strawberry Commission, he studied health 36 people from three provinces in China are known as the region with the highest esophageal cancer cases in the world.
Chen gave a dried strawberry powder to be mixed with drinking water. Freeze drying in a way is one way to keep your important content in the fruit. In a study in the lab, Chen uses black raspberries, but because the fruit does not exist in China he replaced it with strawberries.
In many cases, esophageal cancer develops from pre-cancerous lesions, ranging from mild, moderate and most severe stage. Of the 36 participants who ate strawberry powder for 6 months, 29 women experienced improvement stage, for example from being a minor scale.
"The results of this study are very encouraging because strawberries histologically proven to reduce the level of pre-cancerous lesions and reduce cell division of cancer cells and inflammation," said Chen.
Despite that Chen did not want to rush recommend strawberries to fight cancer. Large-scale studies, more rigorous, and involves varying the number of respondents who needed to know if strawberries are effective in preventing cancer or a placebo. Source: health.kompas.com ; Time
